Let Them Think You’re a Secret Agent!

I was in South Korea, not long after, Kim Jong Il Dies.

I was in South America, while I’m there, Hugo Chavez bites the dust.

Coincidence?

Some people don’t think so.

That’s part of the fun of being all over the world. Things happen that are newsworthy and people automatically wonder if you are involved.

This is also comical when a natural disaster hits in the general vicinity of the hemisphere that you’re on and everyone and their mother, especially your mother, checks to see if you’re OK. Continue reading Let Them Think You’re a Secret Agent!

A Drive Through Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil – Time-Lapse

I used my iPhone 6 time lapse to make a quick video of my drive through Manaus. (With a quick stop at the mall.)

Have a cool time-lapse drive? Please, link it in the comments so I can check it out.

Urban Surroundings: How Could We Make A Societal Differerence?

In the United States, society is in need of change. Change all around. Not any particular community or ethnicity, but systematic, all around, change.

We need both white people and black people to view the urban community differently.

We need a new structure that teaches urban youth that they have value, potential, and a bright future.

We need to teach non-urban people that urban kids are just as smart, just as good, and can be just as productive as their non-urban counterparts.

I’m not here to argue about racism, who does what more, who’s fault it is. No, I’m here to start working towards a solution.

How do we change society to where we have a urban population that is strong and playing a vital role in the United States?

How do we help end the cycle of destruction that is going on in the urban communities?

I have an idea. Continue reading Urban Surroundings: How Could We Make A Societal Differerence?

It’s Your Fault That You Don’t Travel the World – You Choose Not To!

Sitting on top of the world!

“You’re SO lucky that you get to travel the world!”

“Not everyone can just drop what they’re doing and hop on a plane like you do.”

“I want to some day, but I haven’t had the chance to travel.”

If I got a dollar for every time I heard these sayings in one form or another, I’d have a plane ticket to Bora Bora bought and paid for!

Everyone has an excuse for not traveling. Many even have animosity towards me for doing all of the traveling that I do. I sense the negative vibe in their tone and how they say things like, “We all aren’t you, Will. We cannot just up and leave.”

Well guess what? YOU CHOOSE TO NOT BE LIKE ME! There, I said it! Better yet,

YOU CHOOSE NOT TO TRAVEL THE WORLD! Continue reading It’s Your Fault That You Don’t Travel the World – You Choose Not To!

That Infectious Travel Bug: How It Got Me

It was the summer of 2009. I was 28 years old. I had traveled some around the USA and had moved from Michigan to Arkansas. Growing up in Michigan, it was common place to shoot over to Canada every once in a while. I never really considered going to Canada “going to another country,” since it was a 30 minute trip. Plus, they spoke English and there was no culture shock. So I considered myself not much of a traveler.

I studied German in high school and college and I also studied Spanish in college. I had friends that were different nationalities, so I was exposed to other cultures frequently. I was always the type of person who wanted to now more about a different culture and was not afraid to ask questions to find out more. Continue reading That Infectious Travel Bug: How It Got Me

5 Things I Miss About South Korea

In 2011, I was blessed with the opportunity to work in South Korea as an English teacher. I was in a “little village” of only 300,000 called Iksan.

Iksan was a 3 hour bus ride from Seoul, S. Korea’s capital, and a 3 hour train ride from Busan, S. Korea’s 2nd largest metropolis. So I traveled across and back and forth and up and down through Korea.

I took in as much of Korea as I could. Continue reading 5 Things I Miss About South Korea

You’re Powerful

You say that you have no voice –
Yet, millions recite lyrics to your music

You say that you’re invisible –
Yet, millions immolate your style

You say nobody listens to what you have to say-
Yet, millions copy your dialect and slang and how you use it.

You say that you have no role models –
Yet, millions strive to be like you, all the while

You say that you have no power –
Yet, you influence millions, everyday.

You say you want a change?

Then look inwardly, because you have all the weapons to become the change that you want to see.
